Last year Hindringham Primary School proudly unveiled their new eco friendly outside mobile classroom for their younger pupils to enjoy
Set in the picturesque village of Fakenham in Norfolk, Hindringham Primary School spent five years tirelessly fundraising to ensure their pupils had an inspirational and practical building for their key stage 1 pupils.
Hindringham Primary School pride themselves on their family values and forward thinking learning in a happy and safe environment so the whole community pulled together to embark on a determined fundraising campaign which saw them steadily raise the £12,000 needed towards the capital cost of their new eco mobile classroom
When their deteriorating old mobile classrooms were no longer up to the job, they decided they wanted an environmentally friendly ‘eco’ building to replace them.
At the grand opening the North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb, described their new eco building as a ‘Tardis’
School head Sue Dubois said it was considered a pioneering design. This latest in environmentally friendly, and energy efficient design, has an 80 square metre outdoor early years classroom building. The new mobile classroom incorporates a host of energy-saving features such as sun-pipes, which direct and reflect natural light into the classroom, reducing the cost of electric lighting. It also has its own toilets, wet area, reading window and play porch.
Class 1 Eco building one year on…
Our new “eco build” mobile classroom for our youngest children has completed its first year of service. Both children and staff have really enjoyed working in this lovely new classroom, with easy access to the outside for play. The children are fascinated with the pools of light
from the sun pipes and have appreciated the beautiful views across the fields through the seasons. A welcome bonus is that we have
saved significantly on energy costs!
