Case Study: Hindringham Primary School
After years of tireless fundraising, Hindringham Primary School was finally able to replace their dated mobile classrooms with eco friendly state of the art outside classrooms for their early year’s foundation stage pupils.
Describing the building as a ‘tardis’ at the official opening ceremony, the North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb, said "it would be a wonderful learning space for the younger pupils at the school to enjoy".
School head Sue Dubois described the classroom as a "pioneering design".
This latest in environmentally friendly, and energy efficient design, has an 80 square meter outdoor early years classroom building. The new classroom incorporates a host of energy-saving features such as sun-pipes, which direct and reflect natural light into the classroom, reducing the cost of electric lighting. It also has its own toilets, wet area, reading window and play porch.
Mr Lamb said: “This is a great school with some great staff and this new building is iconic. It is wonderful that Hindringham is leading the way with a facility like this"
One Year On...
Our new "eco build" classroom for our youngest children has completed its first year of service. Both children and staff have really enjoyed working in this lovely new classroom, with easy access to the outside for play.
The children are fascinated with the pools of light from the sun pipes and have appreciated the beautiful views across the fields through the seasons.
A welcome bonus is that we have saved significantly on energy costs!
